Following the recent Expression of Interest stage which received a number of submissions, Sport Wales have appointed the North Wales Sport Collaborative Partnership (NWSCP) as their preferred partner to establish Sport North Wales on behalf of the region. The NWSCP is a partnership which brings together a range of organisations from different sectors, including Local Authorities, Health, Universities, Disability Sport Wales and Housing Associations.

This represents an exciting phase for the development of Sport North Wales as the partnership seeks to develop and deliver on the Vision for Sport in Wales – An active nation where everyone can have a lifelong enjoyment of sport. The newly formed partnership will be the first in Wales. It will bring together a variety of different sectors, to unite behind a single vision. It will use their passion and valued contributions to drive forward an innovative and collective approach to ensuring North Wales is active, healthy and happy.

The next stage of the work is for NWSCP (working with Sport Wales) to develop the full business case for establishing Sport North Wales, to enable Sport Wales to formally approve NWSCP as the long term partner to deliver Sport North Wales across the region.

A plan (including timescales and the involvement of additional partners) is currently being developed to move forward this transformational opportunity and it is anticipated that further details will be forthcoming towards the end of the year on specific timescales and how this may impact on future funding and delivery.

In the meantime, organisations should continue with business as usual for Sport Wales funded schemes and activities, continuing to build on the good practice which has already been developed.
